Topographic Survey for utility surveys
Once a utility has been detected using EML (Level 3 survey) or with GPR with on site interpretation (Level 4 survey) it is necesary to accurately record it's position so that it can be incorporated onto base mapping in CAD. If a gridded GPR survey (Level 5 or 6) is being used then accurately setting out the survey is also important. Stratascan use one of two techniques to achieve this.
Total station
We use Leica total stations to tie surveys into base mapping using control points or salient features shown on the mapping. The detected lines of utilities are then logged for transfer into the office.
GPS with Smartnet
An alternative technique is the use of survey grade GPS which is particularly advantageous away from high builidings. Stratascan use Leica Smartrover for both setting out and recording to around 1cm accuracy
