The team are charged with the development and investigation of information pertinant to the whereabouts of the remains of the Disappeared including carrying out site searches.

The first searches in Northern Ireland for one of the Disappeared, Peter Wilson, begun in the seaside town of Waterfoot, Co. Antrim in early November 2010. Ground Probing Radar (GPR), Gradiometer and topographical surveys were employed to help characterise the site, narrow down search areas and identify targets areas for excavation.

Within a few days of the search starting human remains were discovered at the site in Waterfoot, which are believed to be those of 21 year old Peter Wilson who went missing in 1973.
