History of general capability of company

The company was formed in 1990 by Peter Barker who has a background in both archaeology and civil engineering. The company now turns over in excess of £500,000 and undertakes some 200 commissions per year. These range from one-day surveys to substantial projects, the largest of which to date was £125,000 over a period of 4 months. We undertake shallow geophysical surveys for archaeology, engineering, utilities and forensic applications throughout the UK. A number of overseas commissions have also been carried out.

Location of offices

We are based in South Worcestershire close to the M5/M50 junction allowing good communication by road in all directions.

Human Resources

We employ 15 staff, many of whom have degrees in archaeology, geophysics or geology. The structure of the company is essentially project-orientated as follows:

Survey equipment

Most of the survey equipment used is owned by the company including:
Magnetic gradiometers 6 (allowing 12ha or more per day to be surveyed including setting out)
Resistivity meters 2 (including multiplexer)
Ground radar systems 1 multi-channel, multi-frequency system with both 200 and 600MHz antennae 2 single-channel systems with a range of antennae from 100Mhz to 1.5Ghz and an in-pipe antenna
Ground conductivity 1 (EM31)
Magnetic susceptibility 2 (Bartington MS2)
Pipe & Cable locator 2 (RD400 + RD433 + RD4000 + T10)

Total stations 4 (including two Leica TCR705 and 1 Leica TCR 405)

Health and Safety

The company has a H&S policy, copies of which are available for inspection on request. Risk assessments are prepared for all larger contracts and most small commissions as a matter of course.

Training

Staff are trained in the use of the equipment and software both externally and internally. Refresher courses are also regularly arranged for safety passports, first aid and traffic management.
